INDOOR NETBALL RULES

(14/04/09)

 

NB. General Netball Australia Rules Apply (ie. Stepping, contact, obstruction, held ball etc.)

 

·         The game is 2 x 13 minute halves with 1 minute break for half time

·         Each team consists of 6 players on-court:

WD      Wing Defence

WA      Wing Attack

GA       Goal Attack

GD       Goal Defence

GS        Goal Shooter

GK       Goal Keeper

·         MIXED TEAMS                 6-a-side = 3 Guys & 3 Girls OR 2 Guys & 4 Girls

NB. 1 male must play in each third =      1 male in GS or GA

                                                            1 male in WA or WD

                                                            1 male in GK or GD

AREA OF PLAY

·         All areas of play are as per Netball Australia rules, with the exception of WD & WA, they are allowed in the full court, except within the goal circles.

 

CENTRE PASS

·         WD substitutes as the centre (C), taking the centre pass. The opposition WA defends the centre pass. When it is the oppositions centre, the WD defends the WA behind the transverse line.

·         The centre pass must be received in the centre third & must be touched by a player before the ball can hit a net. A free pass will be awarded to the opposition if the ball is Un-touched.

·         The whistle for the centre pass will be blown once the WD steps into the centre square/circle. Players may be warned & penalised for the deliberate delay of the centre pass.

 

NET RULING & OVER-A-THIRD

·         A player must touch the ball in all 3 thirds of the court.

·         A player can not throw from the centre third directly to the back net (Over-A-Third). If a ball is thrown over-a-third, a free pass will be awarded at the back net, but must be passed or touched by a player before it goes into the centre third.

·         A player can lightly brush the net, apart from brushing the net at no time may a player touch the net whether they have the ball or not.

·         A player may not step, land, fall, push off or jump onto the nets.

·         The ball is live off all the nets. Once a player has released the ball, that player may not touch or regain possession of the ball until it is first touched by another player, or the ball makes contact with the goal ring.

·         The nets can not be used to pin a player in such manner as to prevent movement.

·         A player may not deliberately hold the ball into the net or push off with the ball to gain an advantage.

 

JEWELLERY & ADORNMENTS

·         No jewellery shall be worn with the exception of a medical bracelet & wedding band, which must be taped to the satisfaction of the umpire. Nose and eyebrow piercing must be taped with strapping tape.

·         Fingernails must be short & rounded to the satisfaction of the umpire &/or gloves can be worn.

 

SCORING

·         It is the responsibility of the teams to score the game. We advise that a person representing each team sit together to score, as the score recorded on the official scoresheet is the score that will be taken.

·         For a legitimate goal to be scored on the buzzer & the umpire call of time, the ball must have passed through the goal ring.

·         Teams are awarded the following on the competition table:

WIN                 2 points

DRAW             1 point

LOSS               0 points

Bonus Points     1 point for every 10 goals scored

 

BLOOD & INJURY TIME

·         If a player has blood on their body or clothing, they MUST leave the court immediately to be treated. Before play can recommence the Umpire must ensure there is no blood on the ball, the court or any other player.

·         Players whether bleeding or injured have 2 minutes injury time. If the player takes longer than 2 minutes, play will resume. NB. The extra time is only ever played in Grand Finals. If the injured player is replaced by a substitute they are not able to retake the court until the next break in play (eg. Half time).

 

LATE ARRIVALS & SUBSTITUTIONS

·         There must be a minimum of 4 team members present for the game not to be classified as a forfeit.

·         Substitutes can only take the court at the breaks or in the event of an injury.

·         Late arrivals must wait for the next centre before they can take part in a match & must inform the umpire before entering the court.

·         In case of teams having players running late and using fill-in players to start the game, the late arrivals must wait until the break to take part in the game.

·         Players must also play a centre court position when filling-in for another team. We rely on Umpires & players honesty with this rule. If any team feels a team is not abiding by this centre rule, please advise staff at the counter before the game commences of at a break.

 

UMPIRES

·         Umpires decisions are FINAL. An umpire may penalise an offending player or team with whatever is considered inappropriate under the rules of the game.

EG. For dangerous play or misconduct, the umpire may warn the offending player or penalise their team by advancing a penalty, or sending the player from the court for a specified time; 2 centres, until the end of the half, or for the remainder of the game.

 

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DOES CASTLE HILL INDOOR SPORTS CENTRE, TOLERATE THE ABUSE OF UMPIRES. ANY TEAM OR PLAYER THAT HAS AN ISSUE IN THE GAME OR WITH THE UMPIRE IN OUR CENTRE, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO SPEAK TO OUR STAFF MEMBERS AT THE FRONT COUNTER, IN A CIVIL MANNER.

IF A PLAYER CONTINUES TO NOT FOLLOW THE RULES SET DOWN BY CASTLE HILL INDOOR SPORTS CENTRE MANAGEMENT, THEY WILL BE SUSPENDED OR ASKED TO LEAVE THE CENTRE PERMANENTLY.

 

GAME FEES & FORFEITS

·         All players must pay the compulsory registration fee.

·         Match fees must be paid in full, regardless of the amount of players.

·         If a team forfeits within 48 hours of the game day, they must pay their match fee and the other teams game payment also. EG. If your game is on Thursday night, you must forfeit by Tuesday evening to avoid paying the forfeit fee.

·         All forfeits must be phoned-in to the Centre. Emailed forfeits will NOT be accepted.

·         Any team that forfeits two (2) times within a competition may be replaced. If your team is being replaced you will be notified by the staff.
